American Gulf Fishing Charters is a veteran-owned and operated offshore charter service running out of Fourchon Marina and Grand Isle, Louisiana. Led by USCG Licensed Captain Shane Thibodaux — U.S. Marine veteran — we bring serious local knowledge and professional-grade equipment to every trip into the Gulf’s most productive waters.

WE FISH FEDERAL WATERS
One of the biggest differences between a standard charter and a serious offshore operation is the paperwork. We hold a Federal Reef Fish Permit — meaning we are not restricted to the 9-mile state boundary. We have the legal authority to run deep into federal waters, giving our clients access to bigger fish, better variety, and the kind of action that state-only boats simply cannot reach.
Not every offshore charter has this permit. Those without it cannot harvest reef fish species beyond 9 miles from the coast. With our federal permit, we have legal access to all 31 federally managed reef fish species, including:

34' VENTURE CENTER CONSOLE • FOURCHON & GRAND ISLE, LOUISIANA
The DEVILDOG is our 34-foot Venture center console — a vessel built for one purpose: serious offshore fishing. Her heavy open-hull design does not dance on top of the chop. She blasts straight through without flinching, ready for whatever the Gulf throws at us.
With fuel-efficient dual Yamaha 300s and a 300-gallon fuel tank, we have the range to reach the big waters with plenty of fuel to roam. Onboard you will find a roomy deck to spread out on, oversized fish boxes for your catch, and all the offshore gear needed for a productive day on the water. The DEVILDOG carries all USCG-required safety equipment and is fully rigged for both reef fishing and bluewater pelagic trips.

Captain Shane Thibodaux was raised and mentored by a large family of outdoorsmen, running the bayous and marshes of South Louisiana since he was a boy. A fourth-generation butcher and the son of Anita Bourgeois and George Thibodaux, Shane grew up embedded in the work ethic and community of the family business — Bourgeois Meat Market in Thibodaux — where summers and holidays meant hands-on responsibility from an early age.
After high school, Shane joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he spent the next decade building the leadership and discipline that still shape every charter he runs today. He served as an Aviation Ordnance Technician in Pohang, South Korea, and went on to serve as a U.S. Embassy Security Guard in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Budapest, Hungary; and Algiers, Algeria — followed by three years of reserve service as a Marine Air Ground Task Force Planner. He returned home in 2014.
Back in Louisiana, Shane partnered with his cousin Beau Bourgeois to expand the family meat business, and today manages the original Bourgeois Meat Market location in Thibodaux — a business he helps lead with the same grit he brought to the Corps.
Through all of it, his passion for the Gulf only grew stronger. What started with solo runs in a 17-foot Sea Chaser, chasing Red Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, and Cobia, evolved over ten years into something bigger — a calling to share the incredible resources of the Gulf of Mexico with others. In 2025, that calling became American Gulf Fishing Charters, offering premier offshore trips out of Grand Isle and Fourchon, Louisiana.
Shane and his wife Brittany live in Thibodaux with their three children. Outside of work, he is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and instructor at Next Generation Martial Arts. On weekends when he is not offshore, you will find him hunting, spearfishing, freediving, cooking, or playing music — always chasing adventure and time well spent with family.
